Adult Instruction
Comprehensive and Personalized Music Instruction for Adults
Whether you are looking for a teacher to help you make music just for yourself—your own benefit and learning, your own satisfaction and pleasure… gain confidence for sharing your music with others… achieve particular goals through your lessons… or meet your “inner musician” and discover what playing an instrument does for you, you are welcome here, and we invite you to join us at The Music Academy!
Our adult students span the decades and have had a range of prior experience in music:
+Parents who came to the Music Academy for their kids and were inspired to take lessons themselves
+Senior adults who decided retirement was the perfect time to begin an instrument, or to go back to an instrument they played inthe past
+Adults who wanted to take lessons when they were younger but didn’t have the opportunity
+Adults who quit an instrument when they were younger (and regret it!)
+Rank beginners
+Students who have been playing an instrument for much of their lives
Adults of any age can enrich their lives through creating beauty with music and sharing that gift with other like-minded adults.

Aged to Perfection: Music, Wine & Cheese
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with us! In the Fall of 2026, the Music Academy will host a three-part music series called Music of the American Experience: Our City, Our Sound that will bridge local history, American history, and music history. Part lecture, part performance, part social gathering, this innovative class series will promote local American history using music as a tool for deeper appreciation.
Free for all, attendees can enjoy the broad scope by attending all three classes in the series or learn from each class individually as their schedule allows. Each class will feature a local performer demonstrating the discussed themes. Discussions will additionally highlight the ways in which each musical genre has culturally and musically impacted Rockford.
