Classical guitarist Dave Nelson is a Rockford native who has studied guitar at Beloit College and Northern Illinois University, Dekalb. He has earned a Bachelor of Music in Education and a Master of Music in Theory and
Composition with an emphasis in Theory Pedagogy, both from NIU. As an undergraduate David studied violin, played in area orchestras, and received Suzuki training. He has taught guitar for over 30 years at area schools such as Rock Valley College, Rockford University, and Beloit College. David has judged competitions for the Illinois Guitar League in Peoria and Rochelle. In small ensembles and as soloist, David has played classical guitar at weddings, churches, and
receptions. David enjoys teaching and arranging pieces for his students, and spending time with his family.
